CONVERSATIONS: BEING MULTIRACIAL IN AMERICA

AN INVITATION TO

All mono-racial and multi-racial people who have an interest in this topic including parents of multiracial children.

Beginning Sunday, February 28th and continuing every 2nd and 4th Sunday

6:30 – 8:00 pm (PST)

A series of weekly meetings utilizing film shorts, discussion and study to learn about some of the challenges of race in today’s world.

Welcome to this informal friendly space designed for sharing, discussion and learning about the ever growing multi-racial experience. In America we may respond to race in one of three ways. 1) Try to ignore race and have a human experience 2) Adhere to to one-drop rule that for so long as taken decisions about race out of our hands 3) Explore our many races.

Here, mono-racial,  multi-racial adults and parents of multi-racial children can share and profit from one another’s experiences.

Our goals:

  • Deepen our awareness of some historic aspects of systemic racism and the challenges and trauma it currently imposes upon all races.
  • Explore our understandings of the specific challenges of being a multiracial.
  • Provide a space for parents to share information and tips about effective ways of helping multiracial children feel confident and comfortable about their own identity and navigate the confusing choices they often have to make in a world where systemic racism has caused painful divisions.
  • Together practice facilitation skills that allow us to continue this process with others.
  • Make friends with people who have common concerns.
